Around twenty-five thousand homes in south-east Queensland woke up lacking electricity on the start of the week after intense storm systems passed over the state, bringing wind gusts reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Hailstones and Extensive Impact

Homeowners observed giant hailstones as large as seven centimeters in certain regions. Weather authorities confirmed that different parts across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

State Emergency Services received nearly 600 emergency reports across the region, mainly for structural issues but also for downed trees and flooding.

• Hoppers Crossing area - various emergency calls
• Wyndham region - over 175 calls for assistance

At one point on yesterday, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along significant areas of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

The following day was forecast to be the wettest day, with persistent thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both regions.

Safety Concern

Public health experts cautioned that there was an greater possibility of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.
